    About the Program

Inkcredible Communication: how to write to build relationships and get results

As an HR professional, you write a lot for work. And you want your writing to connect with your
audiences and get work done. Most of us learned to write for work by imitating others, but few
of us actually studied how writing works—or doesn’t. The most fundamental aspect of writing to
keep in mind is that it doesn’t have a body, which means that things you might say to a person
won’t work as well or the same in writing. To write well for work, we have to know how to use
what writing does have, which is time—time to prepare in advance, time to craft our message,
time for the reader to review it multiple times if necessary—and when writing is not the best way
to communicate. This session will help you explore the differences between writing and
speaking, learn how writing builds trust differently from conversation, and use those differences
to improve your communication, and its effectiveness, at work.
