    About the Program

    Legislative Update 

    As the world recovers from COVID-19, Federal and CO employment law continues to change.  This session will cover:

    • The expectation of more aggressive agency enforcement under the Biden Administration
    • Federal rules and interpretations that have changed concerning independent contractors and those that are expected to change
    • Important federal legislation and case law 
    • Rundown of relevant outcomes for employers from the most recent Colorado legislative session
    • CO Supreme Court’s Nieto decision on whether employers can have agreements requiring employees to forfeit earned vacation
    • Expected changes in CO due to the end of the public health emergency

    WORK HISTORY:

    Barbara joined Employers Council’s Northern Regional Office as an employment law attorney in April 2017.  Her practice focuses on representing employers in a wide variety of employment law matters, including managing ill or injured workers, terminations, unemployment compensation, wage and hour, harassment prevention, managing employees, civil rights, diversity, and other employment-related issues.  Barbara has had more than 23 years of experience practicing law. Prior to joining Employers Council, Barbara had eight years’ experience as an employment litigator for a firm in Phoenix, Arizona.   She also was a partner at a nationally recognized law firm specializing in franchise law.  Barbara is Peer Review Rated as AV® Preeminent™, the highest performance rating in Martindale-Hubbell’s peer review rating system.

    EDUCATION:

    Barbara received her law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1998, where she received thesis honors, was on the Dean’s List, and was awarded the Alumni Association Prize in Legal Research and Writing.  She received her B.A. degree magna cum laude from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

    INTERESTS:

    Barbara enjoys golf, hiking, reading, and spending time with her family.  While in Phoenix, Barbara served as chair of the National Conference for Community and Justice’s Walk-As-One Committee.  The NCCJ promotes community among diverse people by fighting bias, bigotry, and racism.
