Colorado Bill Introduced making it an Unfair Employment Practice to Seek Applicant Salary History

    February 15, 2016

To prevent pay discrimination, the Colorado legislature introduced a Bill making it an unfair employment practice for an employer to seek salary history information, including compensation and benefits from an applicant for employment.  Under this Bill as introduced, an employer may not orally or in writing ask an applicant regarding their salary history.  It will not be considered an unfair employment practice if the applicant voluntarily supplies salary history information without solicitation from the employer.  This Bill may require many employers to change their standard Employment Application.
