    About the Program

The Legislature passed two new laws during the pandemic this summer that directly impact employers in Colorado. First, the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (“HFWA”) requires Colorado employers, regardless of size, to provide paid sick leave available under the FFCRA to employees through the rest of 2020. Starting in 2021, however, all employers in Colorado with more than fifteen employees (excluding the federal government) must provide employees with paid sick leave (and employers of all sizes will be required to provide paid sick leave starting in 2022). The paid sick leave requirements of the HFWA are wide-ranging, and will require Colorado employers to reevaluate their current offerings for sick leave and PTO. We’ll cover the HFWA, some potential pitfalls, and what employers can do now to prepare.

We also will cover Colorado’s Public Health Emergency Whistleblower law that, among other protections, shields from retaliation those employees who raise concerns in good faith about violations of government health and safety rules in the workplace.
